Historic agreement will see the return of recycling to Pride Week 2004
June 16, 2004
Two leading non-profit organizations today announced an historic partnership that will see the return of recycling facilities to Pride Week 2004.
Eneract, an environmental non-profit organization based in Toronto and Pride Toronto, the non-profit organization that co-ordinates Pride Week, have joined forces to make Pride Week a greener event.
Eneract is very pleased to work with Pride Toronto on this initiative”, says R. Mark Singh, Executive Director of Eneract. “This initiative w ill divert a massive amount of waste away from the landfill and into the recycling system. This is especially important considering the City of Toronto 's goal to divert 60% of waste from the landfill by 2006 and goes a long way to making Pride Week more e cologically sustainable.
Pride Week in Toronto produces a large volume of waste, all of which has historically ended up in the landfill.
Pride Week is one of the largest and most recognized festivals in Canada”, said Pride Toronto Co-chair Ayse Tur ak. “Pride Toronto understands that, with more than a million people at Pride Week, a sound recycling program will play a large role in helping our city achieve its environmental goals. We are proud to continue our history as one of the most pioneering a rts and cultural festivals in this country.
Eneract is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to fostering a transition to an environmentally sustainable future. Eneract has consistently demonstrated environmental best practices to the people of southern Ontario since 1988 and is currently working on a slate of exciting and innovative initiatives.
Pride Toronto' s 24th annual Pride Week is slated for June 21-27, 2004. Pride Toronto is a not-for-profit, volunteer-driven organization that exists to hos t and produce a week of arts and cultural events that celebrate, empower and support the diverse community of LGBTTIQ people.
